Though it never really went away, the V8 racing power plant is poised to make a comeback in the racing world. Next year, Formula 1 will allow teams to run the eight cylinder engines and now rumors have surfaced that UK sports car engine manufacturers AER will introduce one as well.
The engine is designed for the prototype classes of the Le Mans series, and will be turbocharged, with a 75 degree bank angle, with 4 litres displacement and weighing in at 115kgs. The engine is the creation of veteran F1 engine builders Oliver Allan and Ian Prosser.
AER Limited is based in Essex, UK.
